Wildlife Volunteer OVERVIEW
Our wildlife volunteer project in St Lucia, South Africa aims to help with nature conservation within the Greater St Lucia Wetland park area. The project is ideal for nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts and people who love wildlife. You will have the chance to help out at a crocodile sanctuary and do a considerable amount of research and data collection out in the bush, involving various species of animals. Its a chance to truly become one with nature and enjoy all that the African bush has to offer.
Wildlife Volunteer PROJECT DETAILS
You will be met at Richards Bay Airport by a Mozvolunteers representative and transported to our accommodation in St Lucia which is about 40 minutes drive north. You will then have time to get settled into the novelty accommodation and catch up on some much needed rest after the long flight. That evening you will be treated to a lovely dinner. The following day you will be taken to the crocodile sanctuary to meet the people you will be working with and also shown the areas where you will be conducting wildlife research and data collection. The next day, your project begins with work in the crocodile sanctuary. Your time with MozVolunteers will be split between bush-based research and work in the crocodile sanctuary.
Working days are from Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm with a one hour lunch break. You will have three days a week working in the crocodile sanctuary and the other two days will be spent doing research out in the field. The work at the crocodile sanctuary involves looking after crocodiles, cleaning of crocodile pens and help with feeding. You might be lucky enough to help with the hatching of crocodile eggs. The field research will include animal population counts, behavioural studies and you will even get to learn basic tracking. Included in this project is the opportunity to gain a field guiding qualification which you will be working for throughout your stay.
