Turtle Tours South Africa

TURTLE SAFARI CAPE VIDAL

From the beggining of November until the end of March the giant leatherback and loggerhead turtles come ashore to lay there eggs. This is your chance to witness this amazing event, one of the true wonders in nature. Your safari starts in the early evening with a drive through the Greater St Lucia Wetland park to reach the beaches of Cape Vidal. Once at Cape Vidal you are then driven up the beach at night with special spotlights searching for both loggerhead and leatherback turtles who come ashore at night to lay there eggs. Altough sightings can be scarce if you are lucky enough to find one it is an experience of a lifetime. However if you dont have any luck with the turtles theres plenty of animals to be spotted along the way to Cape Vidal and back, including Rhino, Buffallo, Leopard and other nocturnal creatures.

TURTLE TOUR KOZI BAY

The other option for seeing turtles is to jion a tour going to Bhanga Nek in Kozi Bay. This trip has much higher possibilities of finding turtles with sightings almost garuanteed during the season. Although the drive is about three hours each way and you return in the early hours of the morning its all very well worth it to eperience and watch a turtle going through the difficult task of digging a whole in which to lay her eggs. The tour starts by meeting your local guide at Bhanga Nek followed by at night walk across unspoilt stretches of beach in search of turtles. Your guide will give you all the information you would like to know about these amazing creatures and discuss the whole event of them laying eggs. One amazing and very interesting fact about these turtles is that they always return to the same beach where they were born after travelling thousands of kilometers in the ocean currents.
