Surfing in South Africa and Mozambique

South Africa has some of the best waves on earth and is an excellent place to learn how to surf if you havent already. From point breaks to reef breaks and beach breaks, South Africa has waves to offer all levels of surfers from beginners to professionals. There are warm water temperatures all year round, together with hot sunny days and clean blue water, it is a surfers' paradise.

SURFING IN AND AROUND ST LUCIA

There are some good surf spots in and around the St Lucia area. The first of these is the main beach in St Lucia, which is a sandy beach break and also a backline break. Being a huge open stretch of beach means its open to the elements so there is often a side current making it difficult to stay in the line up. However, there are many good days with no current and great waves to be conquered.

Cape Vidal

Cape Vidal is a really great place to surf. It is also a good spot to learn how to surf. Often there's a decent wave in the bay with both lefts and rights and the point break, which is a right hander and can get really good with the right conditions. South Side which is south of the point can produce some really hollow barrels on the sandy beach break and on some occasions a good backline wave.

Mapelane

This right hand reef break offers a long, long ride with really heavy, hollow barrel rides but only works in the right conditions. It Works best on a south west or offshore wind and in 4 foot plus surf. You also have to take the tides into consideration as at dead low its almost too shallow on the reef to surf. There's also the crocodile infested river mouth you have to cross to get there. Not for the faint-hearted!
