Sports Project Mozambique

sports Project OVERVIEW

Many of the smaller schools in Mozambique do not have sports facilities or even a sports education programme. This project helps to teach children both in the local government school of Sihane and our community school. Sports taught include netball, cricket and football. Schools in our area lack facilities and sporting equipment, but with your help we aim to set up new facilities alongside our sports education project.

Sports Project PROJECT DETAILS

You will be met at Inhambane Airport by a Mozvolunteers representative and transported to our accommodation in Zavora which is about 1 hour and 40 minutes drive south. Alternatively you will be met at the main Zavora turn off if you have chosen to take the bus from South Africa. You will then have time to get settled into the accommodation and catch up on some much needed rest after the long flight or bus journey. That evening you will be treated to a lovely dinner and told about the following day's orientation of the area. The following day you will be shown around and taken to our community school and to the Sihane school where you will be working, introduced to some of the locals and shown the stunning beaches just a stone's throw away. The next day the project begins and all the fun that comes with it.

Working days are from Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm with a one hour lunch break. Your responsibilities will involve helping to create the sports fields we need, Set up goal posts, wickets and nets, which will all require a fair amount of physical work. You will also be teaching the children the basic rules of each game, create training and practice sessions and form teams. You will also have to organize matches between different teams and most important of all is to create and instill in the children qualities such as team spirit and leadership.
