Snorkeling in South Africa and Mozambique

CAPE VIDAL, SOUTH AFRICA

Cape vidal offers good snorkeling most of the year round with warm water and a sheltered area to snorkel in. There are numerous tropical and sub tropical fish species to be seen, however there is not much coral and it consists mostly of rocky reef. The best time to snorkel here is at spring low tide when the tide is at its lowest. Then the reef is exposed and protects the snorkeling area from the breaking surf. Good visibility is not always guaranteed, so its best to choose good calm days. The added bonus of this location, is that you also get to see animals along the drive to Cape Vidal and back. A perfect bush and beach experience.

ZAVORA, MOZAMBIQUE

Zavora offers some of the best snorkeling imaginable. There is an olympic-sized off-shore pool, which is protected from the open sea and lined with an array of hard and soft corals. In some areas it can reach 3 meters in depth. There is an abundance of tropical and sub tropical fish species including parrot fish, trumpeter fish, butterfly fish, eels and colourful wrasses. The water is crystal clear and warm all year round with visibility up to 25 meters. Besides all the fish there are many bright colors that catch one's imagination for an unforgettable snorkeling experience.

SNORKELING WITH WHALESHARKS, ZAVORA MOZAMBIQUE

Imagine a fish 8-12 meters long, which resembles a shark and the idea maybe doesn't sound too appealing. However, this largest fish in the sea poses no threat to man and to snorkel alongside one is truly one of the best experiences you could ever have. Whalesharks occur in these waters all year round and are often seen slowly swimming along the coast just behind the break water. This is your opportunity to grab your snorkeling gear and join these gentle giants in their marine environment for an experience of a lifetime.

SWIM WITH DOLPHINS, PONTA DA OURA, MOZAMBIQUE

This tour takes you to the Southern-most tip of Mozambique to a place called Ponta D'Oura. Here you will take a boat out to sea in search of dolphins. Once they have been found, your guide will give you a briefing on safety and dolphin behaviour and then its overboard to snorkel with these amazing creatures of the sea. If you have an underwater camera, this offers great photographic opportunities. The experience of swimming with wild dolphins will stay with you for the rest of your life.
