DUMAZULU CULTURAL VILLAGE
Dumazulu cultural village is situated a 30 minutes drive north of St Lucia. This village has been set up to show you how Zulus traditionally live. There are daily guided tours that take you back in time into the culturally rich heritage of the Zulu people. You will have a chance to see how the traditional homesteads were laid out, the beehive huts which they use to live in and even a chance to taste some Zulu beer. After your tour you are treated to a show of Zulu dancing preformed by men and women. There is also the option including a buffet lunch.
SHAKALAND
Shakaland was one of the first traditional Zulu villages in South Africa. Today it is part of the Protea hotel group and offers luxury accommodation together with the traditional cultural experience. There are daily tours that start off with a video of the history of the Zulu people and some of the battles they fought. After this you will be led through the village and shown displays of day to day Zulu life. You will see how the women carry pots full of water on their bare heads, how they wove mats and baskets and the way they crushed maize meal which was their staple food. You will also visit the Sangoma (traditional healer) and sit down to some Zulu beer. The tour ends with an excellent display of powerful Zulu dancing and a delicious buffet.
Khula Village
This tour takes you through the local community of Khula village and you see, first hand how the Zulu people live today. Along the way you will visit a local school, stop off at a shabeen (a local pub) and visit a Sangoma (traditional healer). You can have your future told to you by the Sangoma. During your tour, your guide will give you information about everything you stumble upon and you will finish with a traditional meal at a local homestead.
