Hippo and Croc Boat Cruises on St Lucia Estuary

Jump aboard this 2 hour educational boat cruise which departs three times a day on St Lucia Estuary. This is an excellent way to get up really close to hippos and crocodiles and provides ideal photographic opportunities. On board is a bar so even if you're not too interested in the wildlife its a perfect place to enjoy some sundowners. Your skipper and guide will keep you informed about everything you see and give you information about the lake system itself.

Sightings vary from day to day but you are always guaranteed good hippo sightings and plenty of them, however crocodile sightings can be affected by the weather but it is highly unlikely that you won't get to see one. For people interested in birding this is a great way to tick off those water birds, as there are plenty of species. Theres nothing like seeing an African Fish Eagle take a fish out of the water, or hear its distintive call. There are many different species of kingfisher to be seen, these range from the tiny Malichite Kingfisher to the Giant Kingfisher. The elusive Mangrove Kingfisher is also a delight to observe.

Besides all the aquatic animal species, there are always sightings of various species of antelope along the shore, together with buffalo and warthog. If you are lucky, you may even spot a leopard aside the mangroves.
